That’s Crazy and Garbage Warrior

dvd[1]When we try and explain to people what we are doing and why we are doing it, we get one of 2 reactions: that glazed over look you would give someone who is speaking a foreign language but you are trying so desperately to understand them, or people who get it to some degree and are envious of our plans.  It is difficult to explain why we would leave our conventional life to drive out west and work on organic farms for a year.  It seems crazy, even foolish, especially during these times.  We just know that we have to do it.  Sometimes the how isn’t so clear, especially when our main obstacle, money (the very concept we are trying to escape, thank you IRONY!), keeps throwing tomatoes at us.  But I know we will make a way.

This past weekend we saw the documentary “Garbage Warrior.”  Eric saw it first, and couldn’t say enough good things about it.  He even said he wanted to buy a copy, which is a great review coming from Eric.  I’m always a bit skeptical when someone gives a movie such a glowing review.  The movie almost always doesn’t live up to the expectation.  This one was an exception to that rule.

“Garbage Warrior” put into film form our current philosophy for life, at least one aspect of it.  At some points during the film, I was brought to tears because I was recognizing in someone else exactly how I felt.  This is a rare and wonderful occurence.    I highly recommend this film, but not everyone will be affected by it like we were.  You kinda have to already be somewhere in the neighborhood of its ideas, otherwise you will argue its message with political propaganda.  Which I guess its all propaganda, but we choose to believe what feels right, and this feels right to us.  If you are a flaming republican, you probably will not like this film.  If you are curious about other points of view and have concerns about our environment, I encourage you to watch this film ASAP.  (You can get it on netflix.)  It is at the root of why we are doing what we are doing, which is just a step in our great master plan!
